IPL 2023 Format
The Indian Premier League or IPL is a professional cricket league in India contested every year by ten teams representing ten different cities or states in India. The league was founded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India or the BCCI in the year 2008 and is the richest cricket league in the world. The IPL has an exclusive window in the ICC Future Tours Program. The tournament consists of two phases, the group stage, and the knockout stage. In the group stage, each team plays with all the other teams in its groups in a double round-robin format.
Points are awarded to a team based on their win-loss record in each game, with points for a win being two times those for a loss. However, there are no points for a loss. At the end of the group stage, the top four teams advance to the knockout stage. In case of a tie between two or more teams after completion of the group stage matches, placement in the knockout stage is determined by applying specific criteria. In case these criteria are unable to break the tie, then decisions are made by super overs and eliminators until a winner emerge.
