iplt20.com: The Indian Premier League or the IPL is a professional Twenty20 cricket league in India contested annually by franchises representing eight cities. The IPL 2023 auction is where teams bid on players in an open market with the team that offers the highest salary getting the player. The league was founded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India in the year 2008 and is regarded as the brainchild of the then-chairman and commissioner of BCCI. Over the years the IPL has had an exclusive window in ICC Future Tours Program. The IPL is the most-attended cricket league in the world and in 2014 it was ranked sixth by average attendance among all sports leagues all over the world.

Additionally, the IPL became the first sporting event ever to be broadcast live on YouTube. The auction of the IPL is also broadcasted live on television as well on digital platforms. As a result, the brand value of IPL was estimated at US$4.5 billion. According to the BCCI, the IPL every season contributed ₹11.5 billion to the GDP of the Indian economy. There are ten teams in the IPL. These franchises are owned by some of India’s biggest business tycoons as well as Bollywood celebrities. Players from all Test playing nations are eligible to be selected for all franchises with each team allowed a maximum squad of 20 players but only 16 can be chosen to play for each match. All players must sign a contract with their respective franchises before they can take part in any matches during an IPL season.

IPL Auction 2023 Details

A total of as many as 19 players were retained pre-auction while 54 slots were up for grabs including 28 Indians and 26 overseas cricketers among which 11 were released by their respective franchises while 43 went unsold last year.
